Tacoma Light Trail 2025 is completely FREE and starts on December 31, 2024, at 5:30 PM with a Dragon Parade from the UWT Prairie Line to Tollefson Plaza, where the New Year’s Eve kickoff celebration begins. To join the parade, visit the volunteer page on our website. Performances begin at 6 PM with a traditional New Year blessing from the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and continue with performances from many of Tacoma’s diverse presenting organizations, including fire and cultural dances!
The New Year’s Eve Celebration continues with DJ Summersoft spinning upbeat tracks for lively community dance breaks, followed by the dazzling Latin American flair of Sabor Flamenco’s performance. Kameron Messmer will bring his interactive glowing “Bubbles” to the plaza—a massive inflatable bubble that families can enter and enjoy while playing with smaller glowing bubbles. It’s an experience you truly have to see to believe!
The plaza will be alive with FREE activities, including circus arts, roaming dragon puppets, and clown antics, as well as arts and crafts and lantern-making stations! Starvin Marvin Food Truck will be serving up delicious comfort food for purchase, and our favorite FREE tea from Mad Hat Tea Company will be available—while supplies last! All Tacoma Light Trail events are free, family-friendly, and packed with fun for everyone!

BAD WEATHER PLAN: If it rains or snows, our activities and performances will relocate to either the Tacoma Art Museum's covered parking lot or the Tacoma Urban Performing Arts Center in Hilltop. Check our website and social media pages for updates.
